Chocolate Orange 'Impossible' Box

These fun boxes have been around for a while, I can't lay claim to the design, but I thought I'd adapt the measurements to hold a chocolate orange for Christmas. If you haven't seen these boxes before, the lid forms part of the box, so that it stays attached when you lift it, and the top of the box opens up to allow you to get at the contents.

For this one, I've used Mossy Meadow Cardstock, Brightly Gleaming DSP & the Classic Weave Ribbon from the Brightly Gleaming Suite. Unfortunately the Brightly Gleaming DSP is no longer available, but this would look beautiful using the Noble Peacock DSP from the Annual catalogue.

Hope you like it

Jane

Instructions:

You will need: Cardstock - 12" x 11 1/2" (30.5 x 29 cm)

DSP to Decorate - 4 of 2 3/4" x 1 5/8" (7cm x 5.7cm)
                       and 4 of 2 3/4" x 2 1/8" (7cm x 3.8cm)

Score, on the long side, at 2 7/8", 5 3/4", 8 5/8", 11 1/2"  (7.4cm, 14.8cm, 22.2cm, 29.6cm)

     &, on the short side, at 2 7/8", 6 7/8", 8 5/16", 9 3/4"  (7.4cm, 17.5cm, 21.2cm, 24.9cm)

Fold on the second score line from the top (8 5/16" / 21.2cm)

      & mark at 1 7/16", 4 5/16", 7 3/16", 10 1/16" (3.7cm, 11.2cm, 18.5cm, 25.9cm)

Using the marks you have just made, cut triangles out as in the template below. Also remove the little rectangles marked & cut up the score lines from the bottom to the first horizontal score line.

Fold & burnish all the score lines. The vertical score lines should all be mountain folds. The horizontal score lines, from the bottom, should be mountain, mountain, valley, valley.

Construct the bottom part of the box by attaching the longer tab to the other end, then fold in & adhere the bottom flaps.

Now construct the top part. If you have folded the horizontal folds correctly, the top section should now wrap around the lower section, with the sections ,next to the cut out triangles, folding together to form the lid. Adhere the tab to the next section, making sure it isn't too tight to be able to move.

Now decorate with DSP.
