Brightly Gleaming Box for Maltesers Truffles

I enjoy making boxes, and unusual shaped boxes are a challenge, but worth it! This box is based on a smaller box I did earlier this year, which, in it's turn was cased from another demonstrator. But the challenge for this one was that I didn't want the sides to be sloping all the way, as I was trying to fit a box of Malteser's Truffles.

I really like the shape of the box, it would be perfect for loose wrapped sweets too!

Hope you like it!

Instructions

You'll need 2 pieces of cardstock (or thicker DSP) measuring
                   A: 6 7/8" x 10 3/4"   (18 cm x 28 cm)
               & B: 6 7/8" x  8"          (18 cm x 21 cm)

Score both pieces on the short side @ 3 1/4", 6 1/2" (8.5 cm, 17 cm)

and on the long side (with the narrow section at the bottom) @ 2 1/2", 7"  (6.5 cm, 18 cm)

Now make a mark at the top, and on each horizontal score line @ 5 1/2"   (14cm)

On the longer piece (A) also score @ 8" (21cm) (to the first score line only) and @ 10 1/4" (26.5 cm)

Turn both pieces back to the short side, with the narrow section at the bottom and score to the first score line only @ 3/4", 3 1/4", 4", 6 1/2"  (2cm, 8.5cm, 10.5cm, 17cm)

Score diagonal lines, connecting the marks to the ends of these last score lines, as in the templates below

Remove all the shaded sections, and fold & burnish all the score lines, noting that all folds will be mountain folds, with the exception of the fold down the centre of the triangular sections, which will be valley folds. make sure you burnish the diagonal folds well - you'll need crisp folds here.

Round the corners, or wedge into all the tabs.

Using Tear Tape on the tabs (shown in the templates at the bottom), connect the pieces together, ensuring that the vertical score lines line up, then join the remaining tab to the other side of the box, as with any other style of box.

Ensuring that your triangular sections are folded correctly, fold in and adhere the bottom flaps. if preferred, a small amount of wet glue on the diagonal sections will help keep the fold in place.

I decorated mine with DSP. The top is a simple 3 1/8" square (8cm)

For the sides,, you need 4 of 3 1/8" x 4 3/8" (8cm x 11cm)

Mark on the long side @ 1" (2.5cm) top & bottom

Turn to the short side, with these marks towards the bottom, & mark @ 3/8", 2 3/4" (1cm, 7cm)

Line up the marks on your trimmer & cut.
