New Annual Catalogue Week - Project No 5

To celebrate our new Annual Catalogue, & our lovely new In-Colours, I'm bringing you 5 projects, which are all variations on a theme, of fold flat boxes & bags.

Todays box, using the new in colour Magenta Madness, was inspired by a very similar box made by fellow demonstrator Jay Soriano of Mitosu Crafts (check out their blog here). When I saw Jay making this one, I thought it would fit perfectly with my theme for this week. I've made some very minor changes to Jay's box, but it is his design. Fabulous isn't it!

Instructions:

You will need 1 piece of 6" x 6" in-colour DSP in Magenta Madness

Trim your DSP down to 6" x 5 1/4" (15cm x 14cm)

Score on the long side at 1 1/4", 4 3/4" (3cm, 12cm)

and on the short side at 3/4", 1 1/2", 2 1/4", 3 3/4", 4 1/2" (2cm, 4cm, 6cm, 10cm, 12cm)

Remove the sections marked on the template below, and round the corners on the resultant flap.

Using a ruler & your scoring tool score diagonal lines as shown in the template. 

Fold & burnish all your score lines, Noting that both vertical score lines should be Mountain folds. The Horizontal & diagonal score lines marked with an M should be Mountain folds, and those marked with a V should be Valley folds. 

Fold in the side sections (fold on the vertical folds) & You should now be able to form your box, ensuring that all folds remain as mountain or valley according to how they were marked on the template.

Tuck the flap into the pocket formed between the end panel and the folded in corners.

Instructions:

You will need a piece of Cardstock 8 1/4" x 9" (21cm x 22.5cm)

4 panels of DSP 4" x 1 3/4" (10cm x 4cm) layered on Whisper White 4 1/8" x 1 7/8" (10.5cm x 4.5cm)

Score on the short side at 2", 6 1/4"     (5cm, 16cm)

   and on the long side at 2", 4", 6", 8" (5cm, 10cm, 15cm, 20cm)

Remove the sections marked on the template below, and round the corners on the resultant flap.

Using a ruler & your scoring tool score diagonal lines as shown in the template.

Instructions:

You will need a piece of cardstock measuring 8 1/4" x 11" (21cm x 28cm)

To decorate it you will need

1 panel   of DSP 4"   x 2 3/4" (10cm x 6.5cm) layered on Whisper White 4 1/8" x 2 7/8"  (10.5 x 7cm)

2 panels of DSP 4"  x 1 3/4" (10cm x 4cm)   layered on Whisper White 4 1/8" x 1 7/8" (10.5 x 4.5cm)

2 panels of DSP 2 3/4" x 1 3/4" (6.5cm x 4cm)  layered on Whisper White 2 7/8" x 1 7/8" (7 x 4.5cm)

Score on the short side at 2", 6 1/4".        (5cm, 16cm)

   and on the long side at 2", 5", 7",10"    (5cm, 12.5cm, 17.5cm, 25cm)

Using a ruler and your scoring tool, score diagonal lines as in the template below.

Remove the sections marked in the template, and round the corners of the resultant flap. 

Fold & burnish all score lines, then decorate with the panels as in the picture below.

Fold the whole side sections in towards the middle, then pull the side panels (the decorated section) up to form the sides of the box. Fold the top over & tuck the flap into the pocket made on the other end by the folded in corner sections. 

Decorate as you wish! 

New Annual Catalogue Week, Project No 2

Todays project is this cute little clutch bag. It's similar to yesterdays project, but this one needs no glue!

I've made this little bag in the fabulous new colour Bumble Bee! Unfortunately, I haven't yet got the new ribbon in this colour, but I think this retired Crushed Curry ribbon worked quite well!

Instructions:

All you need is 1 piece of 6" x 6" In-Colour DSP in Bumble Bee

Score at 1 1/2", 4 1/2"     (3.8cm, 11.4cm)
turn through 90° and score at 3/4", 2 3/4", 4".  (2cm, 7cm, 10.2cm)

Remove the 2 sections marked in the template below, and round the corners of the resultant flap.

Fold & gently burnish your score lines.

Fold your 1 1/2" sides in to meet in the middle.

Hold the project in the top left hand corner with one hand. With the other hand, put your finger under the left hand flap in the centre. pull it back, until the score line next to your finger, lines up with the vertical score line, forming a diagonal crease. gently burnish the crease.

Repeat for all 4 corners. If you unfold your project, it should now look something like this.

Fold the sides in and fold up the bag, using the centre sections to form the sides. push your fingers into the side sections to gently crease them.

You should now be able to tuck the flap into the pocket formed between the centre bottom of the template and the folded in flaps, forming your clutch bag.

Decorate with a ribbon.

It's New Annual Catalogue Week!

The new Annual Catalogue starts this Wednesday & that means new In Colours! Aren't they lovely?!

So, to celebrate, I thought I would bring you a series of fold flat boxes & bags, all of which work in the same kind of way. I have taken inspiration, and have cased a couple of boxes, from some of my favourite designers & fellow demonstrators, Sally Stampers & Mitosu Crafts. I would highly recommend checking out their blogs!

Today's project is this cute little handbag. I think the new colour, Cinnamon Cider, works perfectly for a handbag!

 And if, like me, you struggle for space to store bags & boxes ready to be used, the added bonus of this design is that it stores flat!

Instructions:

You will need

1 Sheet of 6" x 6" In-Colour DSP in Cinnamon Cider  (15.2cm x 15.2cm)
2 strips of cardstock (or ribbon) 1/4" x 6".                    (7mm x 15.2cm)
A small piece of Cinnamon cider cardstock, cut with either the 4th or the 5th largest of the stitched nested labels dies.

Score your DSP at 1 1/2", 4 1/2"                      (3.8cm, 11.4cm)
Turn through 90° and score at 2 3/8", 3 5/8"    (6cm, 9.2cm)

Fold & gently burnish your score lines.

Fold your 1 1/2" sides in to meet in the middle.

Hold the project in the top left hand corner with one hand. With the other hand, put your finger under the left hand flap in the centre. pull it back, until the score line next to your finger, lines up with the vertical score line, forming a diagonal crease. gently burnish the crease.

Repeat for all 4 corners. If you unfold your project, it should now look something like this.

Score & fold the die cut label in the centre, and attach half of it to the centre top of your project on the back of the bag. Now attach the first handle, on the inside of the bag & under the outer flaps.Making sure you aren't obstructing the die cut label. Attach the other handle to the bottom of the project to match the first.

Using a small amount of glue at the ends of the flaps only, glue the flaps down.

Your project should now look something like this

Fold your bag into shape, using the loose section in the centre to form the sides. Put your fingers on the sides, and push them in gently to lightly crease.

Fold the loose half of the label over to the from, and secure with a velcro dot.

Decorate with a gem of your choice.

Noble Peacock Teepee Card

This card is inspired by a card a good friend of mine taught our craft group last week. Under her instruction I made the card below, but it's quite a large card and needs a handmade envelope for a good fit!

So I thought I'd adapt it, to fit a normal C6 envelope, and make it from half a sheet of A4. For those of you in the USA, I'll also include the adaptations you'd need to make if you are using 8 1/2" x 11" card.

I made mine using Blueberry Bushel card & decorated it with the beautiful Noble Peacock Speciality DSP. I cut the peacock & feathers, using the Detailed Peacock Dies, from Noble Peacock Foil Sheets.

Instructions:

Cut a sheet of cardstock in half vertically. 4 1/8" x 11 11/16" (10.5cm x 29.7 cm)  (US: 4 1/4" x 11")

Now cut that piece at 8 1/4"  (21cm) (US: 8 1/2")

Trim the smaller section to make a square 3 7/16" x 3 7/16" (8.7cm x 8.7cm) (US 2 1/2" x 2 1/2")

Score the larger piece @ 4 1/8" (10.5cm) (US: 4 1/4")

Now score both pieces diagonally as in the diagram below

Fold & burnish all score lines.

On the wrong side of the larger piece, mark a point in pencil, on the centre score line, 1" (2.5cm) (US: 2 1/2") below the point where the score lines meet.

To decorate you will need 2 squares of DSP 3 3/4" x 3 3/4" (9.5 x 9.5cm) (US: 4" x 4")

                                    and 1 square  of DSP.       2" x 2"      (    5 x 5cm   ) (US: 2 1/4" x 2 1/4")

Cut all squares in half diagonally.

Adhere the 4 large triangles to the larger piece of cardstock as in the picture below.

And add the adhere the smaller triangles to the smaller piece of cardstock as below (NB if you are following US instructions, your DSP will approximately fill half of your card)

Now adhere your small piece to the inside of the large piece, by lining up the point to the pencil mark, as in the picture below, making sure you only use glue on the part of the card that doesn't have DSP attached. (NB if following US instructions your small square will line up the upper point on the pencil mark, and the left & right points will line up on the bottom of the larger card)

You should now be able to fold your card into a teepee shape and decorate with die cuts, embellishments &/or greetings. 

Use a velcro dot to keep your card in the teepee shape.

Timeless Tulips Double Corner Fold Card

With all the current restrictions, we’re all having to find different ways of keeping in touch with friends, so yesterday I hosted my first crafting zoom party!

I decided that this fancy fold would be a good card to make with my crafting friends. It’s very simple, you just need a standard card base (half a sheet of A4, scores & folded in half).

Measure 2” (5cm), from each top corner, along the top and side, and mark with a pencil. Then score between the 2 pencil marks. Now push the corner in towards the inside of the card, so that your 2 new score lines become mountain folds & your original fold line inverts & becomes a valley fold. Burnish well.. I did the same on both top corners. 

All that is left to do now is to decorate your card. I used the Timeless Tulips stamp set and the, now retired, Pleased as Punch DSP.
